THDC India Limited has commissioned 250 MW Unit-3 of its 1 GW variable-speed pumped storage project (PSP) in Uttarakhand. The project consists of four units, each rated at 250 MW. Furthermore, 750 MW of the total planned capacity of the PSP has now been commissioned. The remaining fourth unit is currently under construction.
The reservoirs formed by the Tehri Dam and the Koteshwar Dam on the Bhagirathi River function as the upstream and downstream reservoirs for the PSP. Furthermore, the project is being implemented by Alstom in partnership with Hindustan Construction Company. Alstom’s responsibilities cover the supply of four 250 MW variable-speed turbine and generator units, along with key components such as main inlet valves and control and protection systems.
Earlier in July 2025, THDC India Limited announced the commencement of the commercial operation date process for the second unit (250 MW) of its 1,000 MW Tehri PSP in Uttarakhand.
