SJVN has invited bids to develop 2 GW of energy storage capacity through pumped storage projects (PSPs) across the country. The energy storage capacity will be developed on a build-own-operate basis and will offer eight hours of discharge, including up to five hours of continuous discharge.
According to the tender guidelines, the scope of work covers the financing, development, design, and engineering of the energy storage system (ESS). It also covers procurement, construction, and commissioning activities. The scope further involves providing operation and maintenance services. Moreover, selected bidders must develop the transmission network up to the interconnection or delivery point and link the ESS to the interstate or intrastate transmission systems. They are also required to obtain connectivity approval from the central transmission utility (CTU).
Furthermore, selected bidders must arrange and acquire land for the project and the CTU connection. They must also secure all relevant statutory and non-statutory approvals and clearances, and obtain the necessary licences and no-objection certificates for project development.
Additionally, the tender guidelines also specify that bidders are required to submit an earnest money deposit of Rs 1.11 million per MW. Selected bidders are required to furnish a performance bank guarantee of Rs 2.77 million. They must also ink a 40-year power purchase agreement with SJVN. The bid submission deadline is January 27, 2026.
