MISO launches second cycle of ERAS projects

The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) has released the second cycle of generation projects under its Expedited Resource Addition Study (ERAS). This initiative involves 15 projects with a cumulative 6,100 MW of proposed capacity. These projects span solar, wind, natural gas, and battery storage and are distributed across MISO’s North, Central, and South regions.

The expected operational timelines for these projects will be from December 1, 2027 to August 6, 2028. This cycle follows the earlier round, which had 10 proposals amounting to roughly 5,300 MW. Three of those have already secured interconnection agreements, while the remaining seven are set for completion in December 2025.

Furthermore, nearly 30,000 MW across 51 proposals have been accepted or are pending validation to be included in the ERAS pipeline. MISO reviews each submission for eligibility and completeness, and after the recent Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approval, it will examine up to 15 proposals quarterly. The ERAS framework allows for a maximum of 68 projects before the initiative concludes on August 31, 2027.
