The Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC) has approved the proposal of the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL) to procure 1,000 MW of pumped hydro storage capacity for a duration of 40 years. The procurement will be based on a tariff of Rs 10.29 million per MW per year, determined through a competitive bidding process.
Furthermore, the regulatory body allowed the inking of a pumped hydro storage power procurement agreement with the developers of such projects. These projects provide nine hours of discharge capability, with a maximum continuous discharge period of six hours.
Earlier in October 2025, AERC issued amendments to the AERC (Terms and Conditions for Open Access) Regulations, 2024.
Furthermore, in February 2025, APDCL issued a tender to develop 134 MW of rooftop solar capacity across government buildings under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojna.
