Atlas Renewable Energy secures financing for solar-plus-storage project in Chile

Atlas Renewable Energy has closed a $475 million financing package for the Copiapó solar project, a hybrid solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) located in Chile’s Atacama region. The company collaborated with BBVA, Banco de Crédito e Inversiones (BCI), Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank (CACIB), Natixis Corporate and Investment Banking (Natixis CIB), SMBC, and Société Générale to secure the financing.

The Copiapó project comprises a 357 MWp solar plant integrated with a 320 MW for four-hour BESS. Once operational, it will reportedly generate about 750 GWh of clean electricity annually. Additionally, the project will supply approximately 450 GWh of renewable power annually to Chile’s mining and steel group CAP, through 15-year power purchase agreements signed with its subsidiaries Compañía Minera del Pacífico (CMP) and Aguas CAP.

In July 2025, Atlas Renewable Energy and Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) approved a financing package worth approximately $179 million for the Draco solar complex in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The 505 MWac complex will comprise 11 solar plants, with operations scheduled to begin in early 2026.
