TotalEnergies, Skyborn and partners inaugurate 640 MW Yunlin wind farm in Taiwan

TotalEnergies and its partners have officially inaugurated the Yunlin offshore wind farm in Taiwan, which is now fully operational and generating renewable electricity at its intended capacity of 640 MW. TotalEnergies has 29.46 per cent stake in Yunneng Wind Power Co., Limited, the joint venture overseeing the project. Other stakeholders include Skyborn Renewables with 31.98 per cent, EGCO Group with 26.56 per cent, and Sojitz with 12 per cent.

Skyborn led the development and construction of the Yunlin project, with assistance from its partners. TotalEnergies will oversee technical operations, whereas Skyborn Renewables will remain in charge of other management responsibilities. Situated around 15 km off Taiwan’s western coastline at depths reaching 35 meters, the Yunlin offshore wind farm consists of 80 wind turbines, each with an 8 MW capacity.

The electricity produced is integrated into Taiwan’s power grid and sold to Taiwan Power Company under two long-term PPAs spanning 20 years, with an average tariff of $165/ MWh. Generating 2.4 TWh of renewable electricity annually, the Yunlin wind farm supplies power to more than 600,000 households in Taiwan and helps cut carbon emissions by roughly 1.2 million tonnes.

TotalEnergies’ offshore wind portfolio has an overall capacity of 23 GW, primarily consisting of bottom-fixed installations. These projects are located in various countries, including the United Kingdom (Seagreen, Outer Dowsing, West of Orkney, Erebus), South Korea (Bada), Taiwan (Yunlin, Haiding 2), France (Eolmed), the United States (Attentive Energy, Carolina Long Bay), the Netherlands (OranjeWind), and Germany (Nordsee Energies 1 & 2, Ostsee Energies, N-9.1, N-9.2).
