John Cockerill bags electrolyser order of 1.3 GW from AM Green

John Cockerill has received an order from AM Green for a supply of 1.3 GW of electrolysers for the company’s one-million-tonne green ammonia project. The supply will be split into two phases of 640 MW each to produce green hydrogen, which will be converted into green ammonia. Production will begin in the second half of 2026. Under this order, the first tranche of 640 MW will be expedited.

Furthermore, as part of this agreement, the two companies will establish a 2 GW per year electrolyser manufacturing plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. The plant will also supply the second 640 MW phase of electrolysers for AM Green’s Kakinada project. CertifHy has certified the Kakinada facility as meeting EU-RFNBO requirements for green ammonia, covering additionality and renewable energy timeliness. AM Green has also executed offtake agreements for this project, targeting end use in various green hydrogen applications. AM Green Ammonia had reached final investment decision (FID) for this project in August 2024.

The output from the new facilities is estimated to be 1 million tonnes per annum of green hydrogen. This represents one-fifth of India’s target for green hydrogen production under the National Green Hydrogen Mission and 10 per cent of Europe’s green hydrogen import target.

In July 2024, AM Green signed an MoU with SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL) for a long-term partnership to supply and source 4.5 GW of renewable energy.
