Iberdrola to commission 195 MW wind farm in Portugal

Iberdrola has commissioned the 195 MW Tâmega Norte wind farm in Portugal. Located between Braga and Vila Real, in the municipalities of Cabeceiras de Basto and Montalegre, theTâmega Norte wind farm is an onshore wind project consisting of 27 Vestas wind turbines, each with a capacity of 7.2 MW and a rotor height of 172 metres. Furthermore, the project is the first of two wind farms that form part of the grid-connected wind-hydro hybrid project, Tâmega Complex.

The complex will consist of two wind farms connected to a large pumped-storage hydroelectric system. The two wind farms represent an investment of around €346 million. Out of the total amount, €237 million is for Tâmega Norte, and €109 million is for the second wind project, Tâmega Sur, which is currently under construction. Tâmega Norte will generate an annual output of approximately 414 GWh, while Tâmega Sul will generate an annual output of 185 GWh.

Earlier in February 2026, Iberdrola Renewables Polska, a subsidiary of Iberdrola Group, secured funding of about €44 million for the development of three battery energy storage system projects in Poland. The funding has been provided by the Polish National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management.
