The Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL) has introduced a fee of Rs 5 million per MW on Central Transmission Utility (CTU) connected wind projects. The fee is applicable on all projects applying for CTU connectivity with new and pending applications. It came into immediate effect on August 6, 2024. This has been done to meet the renewable power obligations (RPO) of Tamil Nadu as the wind energy produced from CTU-connected projects is not included as a part of Tamil Nadu’s RPO. The scheme also aims to promote state transmission utility (STU) connected wind projects. The primary users of this generated power are the other states who utilise it to fulfil their RPOs. The wind power generated is transmitted to them via the 400 kV central transmission lines.
