ReNew and JERA collaborate to explore green ammonia project in India

ReNew Energy Global has entered into a preliminary agreement with JERA to collaboratively assess the development of a green ammonia production project in India. As part of the agreement, ReNew, via its subsidiary ReNew E-Fuels Private Limited, and JERA will collaborate on assessing the establishment of a green ammonia production project. To be located in Paradip, Odisha, this project aims to use around 500 MW of high-capacity utilisation factor renewable energy to generate green hydrogen.

By 2030, the project is expected to produce approximately 100,000 tons of green ammonia annually. JERA will have the right to offtake this green ammonia for Japan. A joint study will be conducted to assess the commercial viability of the project.

ReNew, a prominent decarbonisation solutions company, has established 10 GW of clean energy assets with a total portfolio exceeding 13.5 GW on a gross basis as of March 31, 2023. Besides being a leading independent power producer in India, ReNew offers comprehensive solutions in a fair and inclusive manner across clean energy, value-added energy services through digitalisation, energy storage, and carbon markets—areas that play a growing role in combating climate change.
