SJVN has obtained the government’s approval to establish four joint venture (JV) entities for the advancement of hydro and renewable projects, combining a total capacity of 8,778 MW in both India and Nepal. The Department of Investment and Public Asset Management has endorsed SJVN’s proposal, in collaboration with the Ministry of Power, to establish these JV companies. SJVN will take on the primary role in three JV enterprises. While, SJVN Green Energy (SGEL), will assume the lead position in the fourth JV.
One of the JVs of SJVN is set to be with the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company for the development of 5,000 MW renewable energy projects. Furthermore, a JV will be established between SJVN, the Arunachal Pradesh government, and Navyuga Engineering Company for 1,878 MW Oju hydroelectric project in Arunachal Pradesh. Moreover, SJVN will join forces with the Nepal Electricity Authority and GMR Energy to execute the 900 MW Upper Karnali hydroelectric project in Nepal. SJVN and GMR will share an equal equity partnership in this JV. While, SGEL is set to establish JV with Assam Power Development Company for setting up 1,000 MW renewable energy projects in Assam.
Recently, in January 2023, SJVN Limited announced that it successfully obtained a construction finance facility of Rs 100 billion from a consortium of prominent domestic and international lenders to support its upcoming renewable power projects.
In November 2023, SJVN Limited announced the commencement of power supply to the national power grid from its 60 MW Naitwar Mori hydroelectric project first unit of 30 MW. This run-of-the-river project, with two 30 MW producing units each, is situated in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand.
