The Green Climate Fund will provide approximately $27.54 million to the Yeleen Rural Electrification Project in Burkina Faso. The funds will be used to install solar mini-grids in rural pockets of the country to provide clean energy to over 100 villages. The successful bidders will receive capital grants for the construction of electricity connections. According to sources, the project will reportedly reduce the selected villages’ carbon emissions by 390,000 tonnes through the project’s lifespan of 25 years.
