CPDL inks PPA with SECI for 50 MW solar project with BESS

Chandigarh Power Distribution Limited (CPDL) has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to procure 50 MW of solar power along with a battery energy storage system (BESS) for Chandigarh. The project is expected to supply around 135 million units of electricity annually and help reduce over 96 tonnes of carbon emissions each year.

Furthermore, the agreement has been signed under SECI’s inter-state transmission system (ISTS) Tranche XX. Through the ISTS network, electricity generated in one part of the country can be supplied to another part. Additionally, the project will increase the share of renewable energy in Chandigarh’s electricity supply.

Earlier, in August 2026, SECI invited bids for the utilisation of a 50 MW/100 MWh standalone energy storage system (ESS) on a short-term, on-demand basis.
