Centre asks SECI to issue tenders for developing 4,000 MW solar capacity by February 2019

The central government has asked Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) to issue tenders of solar projects with a combined capacity of 1,000 MW   every month from November 2018 to February 2019. These tenders are intended to help the country bridge the gap between the current share of renewable energy in its energy mix and the targets under Paris agreement. The proposal made by the central government for the capacity additions however will not be sufficient to meet the target set by the government to set up 100 GW of solar energy capacity by 2022. The country currently has an installed capacity of over 25 GW of solar energy.
