NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has floated a tender inviting bids for an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) package to develop a 7,800 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the NTPC REL Bikaner solar plant in Rajasthan. The project will be implemented in five blocks with a total capacity of 1,950 MW/7,800 MWh. Block-1 will have a capacity of 500 MW/2,000 MWh, Block-2 will have 550 MW/2,200 MWh, while Block 3, 4, and 5 will each have a capacity of 300 MW/1,200 MWh each. Furthermore, each BESS block will be connected at the 33 kV level of designated solar plants.
According to the tender specifications, the scope of work includes the design, engineering, supply, transportation, installation, testing, commissioning, and integration of the grid-connected BESS on a turnkey basis. The selected bidder will also be responsible for integrating the system with the solar plant and grid infrastructure, carrying out civil and electrical works, and providing energy management systems, fire safety systems, and grid compliance studies. Additionally, the bidder will undertake comprehensive operation and maintenance of the project for 15 years.
Additionally, the BESS must have a design life of 25 years, support at least 10,000 charge-discharge cycles, maintain a minimum monthly round-trip efficiency of 80 per cent, and ensure annual availability of 98 per cent. The deadline for bid submission is June 15, 2026.
