NTPC floats EPC tender for 3,300 MWh BESS in Gujarat

NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC Limited, has floated a tender inviting bids for an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) package to develop a 3,300 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the NTPC REL Khavda solar plant in Gujarat. The project will be divided into four blocks at the Khavda solar park. Block 1, Block 2, and Block 3 will each have a capacity of 300 MW/900 MWh, while Block 4 will have a capacity of 200 MW/600 MWh.

According to the tender guidelines, the scope of work covers the design, engineering, supply, transportation, installation, testing, and commissioning of a grid-connected BESS on a turnkey basis. Furthermore, each BESS block will be connected at 33 kV level of a designated 300 MW solar plant. The scope also includes unloading of equipment at project sites, supervision of erection and commissioning activities, and integration with the balance of system infrastructure to deliver a complete BESS integrated with solar plants and the grid. The selected bidder will also be responsible for providing 15 years of operation and maintenance services. The BESS system is required to have a design life of 25 years, with batteries rated for at least 10,000 operating cycles. The deadline for bid submission is June 25, 2026.

Earlier, in May 2026, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NGEL, invited bids for the supply of solar photovoltaic modules for 1,200 MW solar projects at Khavda Renewable Energy Park-South Block in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat.
