India and Netherlands ink agreements for cooperation on energy transition

India and the Netherlands have inked key agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the areas of energy transition, sustainable development and maritime development. During their meeting in The Hague on 16 May 2026, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of the Netherlands Rob Jetten agreed to elevate India-Netherlands ties to a Strategic Partnership through focused and time-bound initiatives and joint action plans. As part of this, both countries adopted the Roadmap of India-Netherlands Strategic Partnership for the period 2026-2030.

Both countries will work closely on energy transition, sustainable development and maritime cooperation through focused and time-bound joint action plans. They plan to set up joint working groups on renewable energy, climate and urban development to promote knowledge sharing, industrial partnerships and cooperation in areas such as green hydrogen, bioenergy, battery storage, circular economy, waste-to-energy and renewable energy solutions.

India and the Netherlands will also work together on developing a Green and Digital Sea Corridor to support sustainable and digitally connected maritime trade between the two countries. The partnership aims to promote green energy solutions in ports, shipping and inland waterways, while also supporting India’s green hydrogen exports to European markets. Additionally, both sides will cooperate on sustainable urban development through knowledge exchange and capacity building in areas such as solid waste and water management, zero-emission transport, charging infrastructure, urban mobility and overall urban sustainability.
