Germany awards 2.2 GW of solar capacity

The Federal Network Agency of Germany has announced the results of its March 1, 2026 solar PV auction which was oversubscribed. The tender covered 2,295 MW of ground-mounted and special-structure solar projects. A total of 532 bids of 4,622 MW capacity were submitted, while 268 bids totaling 2,299 MW secured awards. Additionally, 39 bids were excluded from the auction process. Winning bid prices ranged from 3.99 ct/kWh to 5.10 ct/kWh in the pay-as-bid auction.

The average volume-weighted award value was 4.94 ct/kWh which was slightly lower than 5.00 ct/kWh from the previous round. Bavaria led the awarded capacity with 693 MW, followed by Lower Saxony with 340 MW and Baden-Württemberg with 333 MW. Most successful projects were located alongside motorways and railway lines, accounting for 1,026 MW across 123 winning bids. Special solar installations combining solar generation with agricultural or dual land use, achieved 439 MW across 59 successful bids.

In December 2025, the Federal Network Agency released the outcomes of the auctions for biomass plants and solar projects located on buildings and noise barriers. For biomass, the tendered capacity was 813 MW. A total of 807 bids amounting to 940 MW were received. Out of these, 692 bids were selected, including 33 awards totalling 63 MW for new plants and 659 awards totalling 752 MW for existing plants, while 87 bids were excluded from the process. The auction for solar installations on buildings and noise barriers received 140 bids totalling 310 MW against the tendered capacity of 283 MW. After excluding 19 bids amounting to 29 MW, a total of 121 bids amounting to a capacity of 281 MW were accepted.
