NHOA Energy launches 245 MW BESS in Australia

NHOA Energy, along with EnergyAustralia and Enerven, have announced the official launch of a 245 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Hallett, South Australia, following financial close and the project’s transition into the delivery phase. The Hallett BESS is owned and developed by EnergyAustralia near the town of Canowie, and is being deployed adjacent to the existing Hallett gas-fired power station as the first phase of a broader site development.

As the delivery partner for Stage 1, NHOA Energy will provide a BESS capable of delivering 245 MWh of usable energy capacity, equivalent to 50 MW with five hours of storage at beginning of life. Commissioning of the project is expected to begin in January 2027, in line with planned development and testing timelines. The project has received support under the Australian government’s Capacity Investment Scheme. The BESS is designed as a grid-forming solution that can deliver stability services such as frequency control, grid support, energy arbitrage, and participation in Australia’s National Electricity Market.

In November 2025, NHOA Energy was awarded contracts by ENGIE for supply, commissioning, and long-term service of an 80 MW/320 MWh BESS at Drogenbos power station in Belgium. The system will use the NHEXUS platform with 88 battery containers and up to four hours of discharge capability. Construction for the Drogenbos BESS project is scheduled to begin in March 2026, with the commissioning anticipated by September 2027.
