ChemVolt Global has inked a MoU with the Andhra Pradesh government for the development of a 5 GWh lithium-ion cell manufacturing gigafactory. The facility will have a planned investment of Rs 25 billion.
The gigafactory will be developed in a phased manner. Under Phase I, the target is to set up a 1 GWh advanced cell production line by the third quarter of 2027.Under Phase II, additional capacity of 4 GWh will be added thereby taking the total capacity to 5 GWh by the second quarter of 2029. The facility will produce 314 Ah and 750 Ah prismatic lithium-ion cells for grid-scale storage, heavy electric vehicles, and commercial and industrial applications, serving both domestic and export markets.
The proposed facility aims to cater to domestic demand for grid-scale battery energy storage systems, clean mobility, and commercial and industrial energy storage applications. Furthermore, the manufacturing facility is expected to generate approximately 1,500 direct jobs across manufacturing, engineering, operations, and quality functions. It is also anticipated to produce around 4,000 indirect jobs through component suppliers, equipment manufacturers, logistics providers, and ancillary industries.
