Blueleaf Energy, in partnership with Universal Peak Sdn. Bhd., has been selected by the Energy Commission of Malaysia to develop, own, and operate a 100 MW/400 MWh utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) project in the country. The project has been awarded under the Malaysia Battery Energy Storage System (MyBeST) programme. The project is scheduled for commissioning in 2027 and will be implemented through the consortium entities BLE C&I Projects 2 Pte Ltd and Universal Peak Sdn. Bhd.
The MyBeST programme is a competitive bidding initiative aligned with Malaysia’s National Energy Transition Roadmap, which targets 70 per cent renewable energy capacity by 2050. The selection followed a highly competitive tendering process that attracted 28 bids, of which only four projects were reportedly awarded. The Energy Commission noted that the shortlisted projects deploy a range of battery technologies, allowing performance assessment under Malaysia’s grid conditions and climate.
In October 2025, Blueleaf Energy partnered with British International Investment to accelerate clean energy infrastructure development in India, with plans to expand the collaboration into Southeast Asia. The partnership includes a $75 million financing facility to support Blueleaf Energy’s renewable energy investments in India, contributing nearly 2 GW of installed clean energy capacity across solar, wind, and energy storage projects. These assets are expected to generate over 3.2 GWh of clean electricity annually and offset around 3.1 million tonnes of carbon emissions per year.
