Magnon, ErasmoP2X, and Power2X are jointly developing an e-methanol production project at Magnon’s renewable energy complex in Puertollano, Ciudad Real, Spain. The initiative aims to produce 200,000 tonnes of e-methanol annually using biogenic carbon dioxide supplied by Magnon, integrated with its existing biomass-based renewable energy plant. The project will utilise green hydrogen generated by ErasmoP2X and Power2X at their facilities in Saceruela, Ciudad Real.
As part of the collaboration, Magnon will oversee biogenic carbon capture and its integration into the e-methanol production project at its Puertollano biomass plant, while ErasmoP2X and Power2X will supply hydrogen from their 1,000 MW photovoltaic and hydrogen production plants in Saceruela. The e-methanol project will be connected to Spain’s upcoming Hydrogen Backbone Network, which is being developed by Enagás, designated as the provisional manager of the Hydrogen Transport Network (HTNO) under Royal Decree-Law 8/2023. This network will link hydrogen production facilities with demand centres across the country.
Earlier this month, TURN2X and Axpo Iberia signed a power purchase agreement in Spain for the production of green e-methane. The agreement involves renewable electricity supplied by Axpo from Aquila Clean Energy’s projects, which will power TURN2X’s electrolyser to produce renewable fuels of non-biological origin.
