With over 25 years of experience in corporate transactions, regulatory advisory and cross-border deal-making, Vineetha MG’s legal forte is in the banking, finance, private equity, and merger and acquisition (M&A) sectors. As co-founder at Samvad Partners, she is recognised for her ability to deliver strategic, business-focused legal solutions.
An alumna of the National Law School of India University, she further honed her leadership and policy acumen through the Infrastructure in a Market Economy programme at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. She began her legal career at ICICI Bank Limited before spending over a decade as a partner at AZB & Partners. In 2013, she co-founded Samvad Partners.
Her professional achievements have been recognised nationally and internationally. Most recently, she received the International Bar Association Pro Bono Award 2024, in association with LexisNexis, for her outstanding commitment to public interest work. She has been inducted into the Legal 500 Hall of Fame. She is consistently recognised by the Legal 500 Asia-Pacific, Chambers Global and Asia-Pacific, IFLR1000, and the India Business Law Journal’s “A-List” of Top 100 Lawyers, with accolades across multiple practice areas, including corporate and M&As; private equity; fintech; insurance; projects and energy; technology, media and telecommunications; and restructuring and insolvency.
Within the renewable energy space, she has emerged as a thought leader on the legal and regulatory aspects of India’s energy transition. She points out core sector challenges: land acquisition disputes, fragmented regulatory frameworks, complex permitting, financing risks, tariff uncertainties and the need for robust environmental compliance. According to her, these can be eased through early legal involvement, rigorous due diligence, precise contract design and stakeholder collaboration.
Beyond work, she serves on the boards of the Grameen Foundation India and the Centre for Social and Behaviour Change Communication, reflecting her commitment to inclusive growth and social impact. She also mentors the next generation of lawyers, advocating diversity in the profession, and leading firm-wide initiatives that prioritise ethics, collaboration and innovation.
“Looking ahead, I aim to continue combining my deal-making expertise with policy innovation to influence regulatory reforms and promote sustainable investment practices. This, I believe, will ensure my contribution to India’s corporate and energy sectors remains transformational and future-ready,” she says.
