PROENERGY to develop 400 MW RIGS project in Canada

PROENERGY has secured a contract to develop, build, own, and operate the Renewable Integration and Grid Security (RIGS) project in Centre Village, New Brunswick. The project is being undertaken in collaboration with the New Brunswick Power Corporation (NB Power), which will serve as the offtaker under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

The facility is scheduled to begin commercial operations in 2028. The proposed facility will feature a 400 MW PowerFLX system comprising eight aeroderivative gas turbines. It is designed to complement the province’s growing portfolio of wind and solar assets by providing dispatchable backup power and ensuring grid stability during periods of variable renewable generation.

Located in Westmorland County, the site was selected for its proximity to existing fuel and transmission infrastructure, thereby minimising land disturbance and associated environmental impact. In addition to supporting the energy transition, the project is expected to reduce the province’s dependence on coal, oil, and imported electricity.
