The Government of Laos has launched construction on the 124 MW Nam Neun 1 hydropower plant, a crucial $360 million energy project aimed at supplying electricity to Vietnam by 2028.
The project, which is expected to bolster Laos’ energy export capabilities, is being constructed with the support of Vietnam-based contractor Construction Corporation 47 JSC. Energy Minister Phoxay Sayasone emphasised the project’s modern technology and its significant contribution to Laos’ economic and community development. The plant is scheduled for completion in 2028, with the electricity generated set to be exported to Vietnam.
The project will adhere to all technical and environmental standards, as outlined by project manager Soulixay Bounmanikod. The Vietnam-based contractors have committed to completing the plant on schedule while complying with Lao regulations.
