Cygni Energy commissions 4.8 GWh BESS manufacturing facility in Telangana

Cygni Energy has inaugurated the first phase of its automated battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, Telangana. The facility is located on a 5-acre site in the electronics manufacturing clusters at Maheshwaram, and spans 160,000 square feet. It has reportedly been established with an investment of over Rs 1 billion.

The facility has a manufacturing capacity of 4.8 GWh in the first phase, targeting electric vehicles and large-scale grid-connected energy storage systems.  In the second phase, the company plans to expand the facility’s output to 10.8 GWh by 2027. This phase will involve an additional Rs 1.5 billion in investment, bringing the total to Rs 2.5 billion across both phases. The expansion will include three new automated 2 GWh cell-to-pack manufacturing lines and container integration facilities to meet rising demand in both stationary and e-mobility segments.

The facility is also reported to be India’s first LEED-qualified battery production facility, equipped with an advanced engineering lab and battery management system lab. The facility’s production line is capable of assembling 105 kWh liquid-cooled base modules using advanced 314Ah cells, designed for energy storage containers globally. Its manufacturing execution system software enables real-time monitoring, quality control, and traceability. These developments are expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in the next 24 months.
