Avina Clean Hydrogen (Avina) has completed the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Front-End-Loading (FEL-3) of its 2,200 metric tons per day (MTPD) clean ammonia facility located on the Texas Gulf Coast. Final investment decision (FID) for the facility is targeted for 2025. The facility is expected to produce up to 600,000 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of blue ammonia.
Avina has also inked a long-term water supply agreement with the local water district to secure sufficient resources for producing up to 800,000 MTPA of clean ammonia. Additionally, interconnection studies have been completed to ensure access to 1 GW of transmission capacity. The facility is positioned to deliver low-carbon-intensity ammonia to the European RFNBO compliance markets at competitive rates.
Furthermore, the facility has achieved tier 1 clean hydrogen pre-certification from the Korean Energy Economics Institute with a Well-to-Gate CI score of 0.04 kg carbon equivalent per kg of hydrogen. KBR had earlier delivered the Basic Engineering Design (BED) package for the plant along with supporting its other design activities. Larsen & Toubro led the overall FEED effort, while EXCEL oversaw the constructability aspects during FEED.
