EWEC issues RFP for 1,500 MW solar power project in UAE

Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has issued a request for proposals (RFP) to pre-qualified companies for the development of the Zarraf Solar PV Independent Power Producer (IPP) project. The project is located in the Al Zarraf area of the Al Dhafra region and will have a 1,500 MW power generation capacity.

Furthermore, the RFP is being issued to bidders who successfully completed the qualification process following the Expression of Interest (EOI) stage in October 2024. A total of 20 companies and consortiums submitted EOIs, out of which 16 advanced to the RFP stage after providing their statements of qualification. 

Additionally, the chosen developer or consortium will hold up to 40 per cent ownership in the project, while the Abu Dhabi Government will indirectly hold remaining equity. The chosen developer will ink a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with EWEC, Under this energy purchase agreement, EWEC will pay exclusively for the net electrical energy delivered by the plant. Submissions for the RFP are expected by the second quarter of 2025.
