Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) has inked a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google through its Energy Transition Fund I in the Netherlands. As part of this agreement, Google will purchase 250 MW of wind energy from the Zeevonk project to support its operations in the Dutch region for a period of 15 years. The Zeevonk project is a joint venture between Vattenfall and CIP, integrating offshore wind, solar energy, and green hydrogen production on a large scale.
The project also includes a 2 GW offshore wind farm and a 50 MW floating offshore solar farm situated 62 km off the Dutch coast. Additionally, a major portion of the electricity generated will be converted into green hydrogen at a large-scale electrolyser facility located at the port of Rotterdam. The project is expected to be operational in 2029.
Netherlands has been witnessing expansion in the renewable energy sector with investments from companies. In July 2024, Rolls-Royce Holdings announced an order for a 32.6-MW/65.2-MWh battery storage system to supplement the Zeewolde wind farm in the Netherlands. In March 2024, The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate through the Netherlands Enterprise Agency floated a tender for 4 GW offshore wind projects.
