The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has set specific terms for real estate developers and promoters to avail Central Financial Assistance (CFA) under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGY). According to the new guidelines, developers and promoters must submit an undertaking confirming that the rooftop solar asset, supported under the PMSGY, will be handed over to the group housing society or residential welfare association. Additionally, the developers must ensure that the benefits from the rooftop solar subsidy are passed on to the residents through reduced charges or tariffs for electricity used in common facilities within housing complexes.
In October 2024, the MNRE issued an expression of interest (EoI) for vendors under the PMSGY, aiming for 10 million residential rooftop solar installations by March 2027 to expand the network of registered vendors and accelerate installations.
In September 2024, the MNRE released draft guidelines for financial assistance and payment security under the PMSGY, covering CFA for residential consumers through renewable energy service company and utility-led aggregation models.
In June 2024, the MNRE issued operational guidelines which emphasized that CFA under the PMSGY would only be provided if the rooftop solar asset is dedicated to common facilities in group housing complexes, rather than being used for individual residential purposes.
