STMicroelectronics and ENGIE ink renewable energy deal in Malaysia

STMicroelectronics has announced a 21-year power purchase agreement with BKH Solar. BKH Solar Sdn Bhd is jointly established by ENGIE Renewable SEA Pte Ltd and and Conextone Energy Sdn Bhd. This agreement enables the company to source approximately 50 GWh of renewable energy annually from a new solar farm in Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, Malaysia, under Malaysia’s Corporate Green Power Program initiated by the Malaysian Single Buyer in 2023.

The energy supplied through this agreement will support ST’s 2027 goals of achieving carbon neutrality and 100 per cent renewable energy sourcing for its operations. The new solar farm will contribute significantly to ST’s environmental commitments, especially at its high-volume test and assembly facility in Malaysia.

Earlier in April 2024, STMicroelectronics entered into a ten-year power purchase agreement with Centrica Energy for renewable energy to supply its Italian operations. This agreement was reached to support ST’s major semiconductor manufacturing sites in Agrate (near Milan) and Catania, as well as additional R&D, design, and sales locations across the country.
