X-ELIO has announced the expansion of its Blue Grass Solar Farm in Queensland’s Western Downs with the addition of a 148 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), marking its first hybrid solar and storage project in Australia. The project will be developed in two phases, with the first phase delivering a 60 MW BESS by 2025 and the second phase adding an 88 MW BESS by 2026.
This 200 MW solar farm, which was inaugurated in November 2022, generates 420 GWh of clean energy annually and supports Queensland’s Renewable Energy Target (QRET). Furthermore, the integration of BESS will allow the solar farm to store surplus energy during peak solar hours and release it during high demand or low solar generation, enhancing energy reliability and grid stability.
X-ELIO specialises in developing, constructing, financing, and operating sustainable energy projects, with a global footprint spanning Europe, the United States, Latin America, Japan, and Australia. With over 2.6 GW of projects completed, the company stands as a global leader in renewable energy development. X-ELIO is deeply committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and actively contributing to the fight against climate change through its sustainable energy initiatives.
