Reliance Industries Limited has been awarded 10 GWh Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) capacity as the winner of production linked incentive (PLI) Scheme for ACC battery storage by the Ministry of Heavy Industries. This round has a budget of Rs 36.2 billion.
The ministry had received bids from seven companies. After the shortlisting process based on quality and cost-based selection mechanism, Reliance Industries was declared the winner. Five of the remaining companies have been put on waitlist. They are ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Private Limited, Waaree Energies Limited, JSW Neo Energy Limited, and Lucas TVS Limited.
The PLI scheme was approved in May 2021 by the Union Cabinet with an aim to promote manufacturing of technology agnostic ACC in India achieve a manufacturing capacity of 50 GW of ACC with a budget of Rs 181 billion.
In February 2023, Reliance and Olectra Greentech introduced a hydrogen bus with the aim of commercialising the carbon-free alternative to traditional public transportation within a year.
