JGC Japan and Sumitomo partner for floating offshore wind components

JGC Japan Corporation, an EPC operating company under JGC Holdings Corporation, and Sumitomo Corporation have announced an agreement to explore potential collaboration on the detailed design, manufacturing, and delivery of floating structural components for floating offshore wind power generation. The aim is to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and achieve mass production in the production and supply system by leveraging the strengths of both partners.

Furthermore, the two companies will evaluate the potential for collaboration in several areas to build a supply chain for floater components. These areas include the detailed design based on floating foundation design, the development of partnerships with steel and shipbuilding manufacturers for component production, order placement, and manufacturing management, and the transportation of floater components to base ports for offshore wind power generation.

In April 2024, JGC Holdings Corporation had announced an investment in AP Ventures Fund III to boost its capabilities in hydrogen, ammonia, and CCUS technologies. This investment supports JGC Group’s goals of fostering an environmentally sustainable society and improving energy accessibility.
