Heliene and Premier Energies to establish solar cell manufacturing facility in US

Heliene and Premier Energies have announced a joint venture to establish a solar cell manufacturing facility in the United States. The new facility will have an annual capacity of 1 GW of NType cells to meet both companies’ requirements. This venture allows them to invest in the growing U.S. solar industry while capitalizing on clean energy incentives introduced under the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022.

Currently, Heliene sources solar cells from PEPPL’s Hyderabad facility for use in its module manufacturing at the Minnesota plant.
Under the joint venture, Heliene is expected to handle construction, project management, operations, and regulatory expertise, while Premier will provide cell technology engineering, manufacturing expertise, equipment selection, and supply chain management.

Heliene and Premier Energies’ planned facility will help developers obtain additional tax credits and incentives, such as the domestic content bonus adder, for their solar projects.

In April 2024, Heliene secured a multiyear agreement to supply Excelsior Energy Capital with 2 GW of solar modules. Most of these panels will be produced in the United States, utilizing the existing facility in Minnesota, and a new factory planned for the Greater Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
