TotalEnergies to develop 100 MW/200 MWh battery storage project in Germany

TotalEnergies has concluded its final investment decision for a 100 MW/200 MWh battery storage project in Dahlem, North Rhine-Westphalia. This is the first project approved by TotalEnergies from its recent acquisition of Kyon Energy, a german battery storage system developer, which was finalised in February 2024.

The project has an investment exceeding €75 million. Saft, a TotalEnergies affiliate, will provide the electricity storage technology for the project. Commercial operations are anticipated to commence in the second half of 2026, and Quadra Energy will market the flexibility of these batteries.

In June 2024, TotalEnergies and Air Products signed a 15-year agreement to supply Europe with 70,000 tons of green hydrogen per year, beginning in 2030. This deal supports TotalEnergies’ goal to decarbonise its European refineries, which need 500,000 tons of green hydrogen annually.
