Kapil K. Jain, Chief General Manager, Marketing (Retail LNG), GAIL Gas Limited

Kapil Kumar Jain has more than 31 years of experience in GAIL (India) Limited, a Maharatna company under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He has worked extensively in the natural gas sector, where he has been involved in the execution of city gas distribution (CGD) projects, LNG infrastructure, construction of cross-country natural gas pipelines, LPG recovery plants, waste heat recovery projects, and operations and maintenance (O&M) of LPG recovery plants.

As chief general manager (CGM), marketing (retail LNG) at GAIL (India) Limited’s corporate office, Jain currently looks after all retail LNG marketing activities, including setting up LNG dispensing stations across India. He is responsible for developing the retail LNG vertical through backward integration with end users, collaborating with automobile manufacturers to develop and manufacture heavy duty equipment and machinery powered by LNG, collaborating with retrofitters for the transition of the existing fleet from diesel to LNG fuel, and facilitating forward integration by ensuring the availability of LNG dispensing stations across India to ensure continuous supply while keeping prices competitive with alternative fuels.

Prior to this, as COO at GAIL Gas Limited, Jain looked after marketing, projects, O&M, business development, HSE and BIS/IT activities for 16 PNGRB-authorised geographical areas across the country. He was also on the board of directors of GAIL Gas’s CGD JV companies. According to Jain, “There will be huge demand and opportunities for infrastructure development in India in the coming years, considering that there is a focus on promoting clean, efficient and environment-friendly energy forms such as natural gas (including LNG), renewables, hydrogen and compressed biogas to meet the country’s growing energy needs as well as the centre’s target to achieve net zero by 2070. Furthermore, flexible and industry-friendly regulations and government policies are now helping faster infrastructure development in India.”

Jain’s key strengths at work are his meticulous analysis of tasks, formulation of plans with backward and forward integration, and execution of plans through for the in order to achieve targets. He has a results-oriented approach to work, with customer satisfaction being a key priority. Jain has a B.Tech (Mechanical) degree from IIT-BHU. When not at work, he likes to spend time with his family, which includes his wife and their two sons. His wife is a homemaker and is the core strength of the family. Jain also enjoys travelling and listening to music.
