BPCL to spearhead CBG manufacturing in Chhattisgarh

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority, along with the Municipal Corporations of Raipur and Bhilai have signed a MoU for the production of compressed biogas (CBG) in the state of Chhattisgarh. As per the agreement, BPCL will lead the setup of CBG facilities in Raipur and Bhilai, investing around Rs 1 billion in each plant. Utilising municipal solid waste to generate biofuel, these advanced facilities will have a processing capacity ranging from 100 to 150 tonnes per day.

Around 200-250 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste will be employed daily in biofuel production, establishing a basis for a sustainable circular economy. Additionally, the creation of these facilities is expected to produce around 60,000 man-days of employment annually, contributing to economic growth and livelihoods in the area. When production and sales reach maximum capacity, the state can expect to receive an annual revenue of Rs 4.5 million from the GST. Furthermore, as a useful byproduct, the plants will produce organic fertiliser, supporting the state’s efforts to promote organic farming and sustainable agriculture.

In February 2024, The Cochin International Airport Limited signed a MoU with BPCL to develop the world’s first green hydrogen plant within the premises of Cochin airport.

In November 2023, Servotech Power Systems secured an order for 2,649 AC electric vehicle chargers from BPCL.
