Mingyang Smart Energy has launched the MySE 18.X-20 MW, reportedly the world’s largest offshore wind turbine, at its Shanwei manufacturing facility. The MySE 18.X-20 MW prioritises modularity, lightweight design, elevated efficiency and reliability. Designed for worldwide use in regions with medium to high wind speeds, this turbine is especially suitable for locations susceptible to typhoons.
Mingyang has integrated active anti-typhoon technology, demonstrating its robustness by withstanding wind speeds 56.1-61.2 metres per second, equivalent to Category 17 typhoons. With an annual capacity of 80 million kWh in eastern Guangdong, the turbine can power 96,000 households and reduce carbon emissions by 66,000 tonnes. Underlining the importance of local production, Mingyang guarantees that critical components, including blades, gearboxes, generators, pitch systems, large castings and control systems, are domestically manufactured. The turbines are designed to lower the levellised cost of energy, ensuring long-term returns for customers.
