Andhra Pradesh CM unveils Rs 66 billion solar projects and substations initiative

The chief minister of Andhra Pradesh has announced the commencement of a 750 MW solar project in Kadapa and a 100 MW solar plant in Anantapur. These projects are expected to generate employment for 1,700 people.

Additionally, the chief minister inaugurated 12 AP-Transco substations in districts of Alluri Sitharama Raju, Sri Satya Sai, Eluru, Palnadu, Nellore, Annamayya and Kadapa. The chief minister also declared plans for the establishment of 16 additional substations in the state in districts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, Konaseema, West Godavari, Guntur, Prakasam, Nandyal and Kurnool districts. The total cost of these projects is worth Rs 66 billion.

The Andhra Pradesh government and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have also inked a MoU to set up 500 MW wind and solar energy projects each, including a pumped storage project of 250 MW at a cost of Rs 100 billion. These projects are anticipated to create employment for 1,500 individuals.

The expansion of manufacturing capacity of Avera AI Mobility’s electric vehicle scooter from 25,000 to 100,000 units has also been announced, which is expected to generate employment to additional 200 individuals.

The state government has also entered into a contract with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). As part of the agreement, SECI will generate 17,000 million units of solar energy in the state and deliver 13,000 million units of energy to the agricultural sector at a discounted tariff. SECI will supply 3 GW of solar energy by September 2024, an additional 3 GW by September 2025, and 1 GW by September 2026.

In August 2023, a MoU was signed between NHPC Limited and Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited for setting up renewable energy and pumped hydro storage projects in Andhra Pradesh.
