Greenko orders 140 MW electrolysers from John Cockerill

Greenko Group signed an agreement to purchase 28 units of 5 MW alkaline electrolysers from Belgium-based John Cockerill for developing a green ammonia plant in Una, Himachal Pradesh. Greenko’s order expands on the company’s existing collaboration with John Cockerill, which includes the joint development of a 2 GW per year electrolyser manufacturing plant in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.

Greenko ZeroC, a subsidiary of Greenko Group, and John Cockerill are working together to develop a plant with a capacity of 300 metric tonnes per day. It will allegedly be India’s largest green ammonia plant till date, contributing to the country’s efforts to build large-scale green hydrogen production capacity. The electrolysers are scheduled to arrive in March 2024, and the plant is scheduled to be operational by June 2024.

In January 2023, the Greenko Group announced a Rs 100 billion investment in a pumped storage project (PSP) near Gandhi Sagar in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district. The company will build the PSP which will have a daily storage capacity of 11 GWh. The renewable electricity stored in the PSP project during lean demand hours will be dispatched later to assist in meeting the state’s evolving peak power demand resulting in significant cost savings.

Additionally, Granules India Limited formed a strategic alliance with Greenko ZeroC to work on Green Molecule Solutions and their broader applications in pharmaceuticals as part of their sustainability and circular economy initiative. Granules and Greenko ZeroC will collaborate to create and promote integrated green pharmaceutical zones in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.
