Seaway 7 to start inter-array cable works for Moray West wind farm

Subsea 7, based in Luxembourg, has signed a letter of award (LOA) to begin engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning (EPIC) work on the 882 MW Moray West offshore wind facility’s inter-array grid cables. The agreement was signed by the firm and Moray Offshore Windfarm (West). The LOA is currently in the final phases of negotiation and may include the installation and supply of roughly 125 km of 66 kV subsea power cables, as well as all associated cable protection systems. The Moray West facility is expected to open in 2024. 

Reportedly, the project is being carried out using Seaway 7’s advanced cable lay vessels. Once completed, Moray West will be one of Subsea 7’s most significant contracts. The deal will not be recognised until the project’s financial closure. The project is anticipated to reach financial close in the coming months, with the first power generated in 2024. The Aberdeen office of Seaway 7 will be in charge of carrying out the contract’s terms. The Moray West offshore wind farm would include 60 wind turbines and will be located on Scotland’s east coast in the Moray Firth.

Recently, John Wood Group, a British engineering and consulting firm was awarded the principal designer and pre-feed scope for Salamander, a 100 MW floating wind farm in Scotland. Salamander, a joint venture between Simply Blue Group, Ørsted, and Subsea 7, is located 35 km from Peterhead on Scotland’s east coast. Wood would carry out system-level pre-front-end engineering design (FEED) in order to facilitate planning, costing, and risk assessment of a FEED design process.
