The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has signed an MoU with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT) to support green and climate-resilient infrastructure projects in rural India. The partnership aims to strengthen villages, panchayati raj institutions and other community-level infrastructure in Maharashtra.
According to the agreement, both organisations will work together to identify, develop, structure and finance sustainable infrastructure projects. NABARD will provide support in rural development, climate finance and green infrastructure financing, while MAHAPREIT will contribute its experience in implementing climate-focused infrastructure projects.
Initially, the partnership will focus on green energy, decarbonisation of government buildings, gram panchayat infrastructure, rural public institutions and water pumping schemes. It will also support the deployment of clean energy solutions at the directorate of technical education institutions, government and district hospitals, and other public service institutions serving rural communities. Additionally, the collaboration will finance biogas and bioenergy projects using agricultural residues and other biomass resources, as well as solar-powered micro cold storage facilities for village-level bodies.
Earlier, in June 2026, MAHAPREIT invited bids for the selection of solar developers for 100 MW of behind-the-meter rooftop solar projects in Maharashtra under the renewable energy service company model. The tender covers projects with and without battery energy storage systems.
