The Gujarat government has released the Green Hydrogen Policy 2025 to promote sustainable economic growth, enhance energy security, and facilitate the production, consumption, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives. The policy will remain in force until December 31, 2035, or until a new policy is announced by the government of Gujarat, whichever is earlier.
The policy aims to achieve a green hydrogen production capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) by 2035, in alignment with the Panchamrit commitments. Furthermore, the objectives of the policy are to achieve approximately 30 GW of electrolyser capacity along with 75 GW of renewable energy capacity. It also aims to facilitate investments of around Rs 5,000 billion across the green hydrogen and renewable energy sectors.
Additionally, it targets a reduction of at least 2 MMTPA of natural gas consumption through the adoption of green hydrogen and the elimination of 5 MMTPA of carbon emissions within the state. The policy also seeks to create about 600,000 direct and indirect green jobs. The policy aims to set up electrolysis-based green hydrogen projects, biomass-based green hydrogen projects, and green hydrogen hubs.
