Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has issued a tender to develop a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) connected to the state transmission network. The project is being implemented for the Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited.
According to the tender guidelines, the BESS project will include a power conversion system, transformers, and complete 33 kV medium-voltage bus work. The system is designed to deliver four hours of on-demand operation, with flexibility for occasional dual charge discharge cycles per day, subject to an annual limit of 420 cycles. According to the eligibility criteria, the bidders must have supplied, erected, tested and commissioned atleast one grid-connected BESS project with a minimum cumulative capacity of 10 MWh, and atleast one solar or wind project with a minimum capacity of 50 MW. Additionally, they must, commissioned atleast AIS two circuit breaker-equipped bays of a minimum 132 kV in one substation or switchyard.
Additionally, the shortlisted bidders are required to provide a comprehensive project facility maintenance for 15 years. The projects will secure viability gap funding support through the Power System Development Fund. Additionally, the BESS project must be completed within 15 months. The bid submission deadline is January 30, 2026.
