Gujarat rolls out integrated renewable energy policy 2025

The Gujarat government has notified the Integrated Renewable Energy Policy 2025 for further encouraging the development of renewable energy generation projects in the state. The policy will remain in force until December 2030 or until the notification of a new policy, whichever is earlier.

According to the policy, renewable energy projects that are registered and commissioned during the operative period will be eligible for the benefits and incentives outlined in the policy. These benefits will be applicable for a period of 25 years from the date of commissioning or for the lifespan of the renewable energy project, as applicable.

Furthermore, the policy aims to achieve more than 50 per cent of total energy consumption from non-fossil fuel energy sources by 2030. It also intends to achieve an installed renewable energy capacity of more than 150 GW by 2035 and an installed renewable energy capacity of 300 GW by 2047.

Additionally, the policy seeks to meet these objectives through a wide range of renewable energy technologies, including solar, wind, wind–solar hybrid systems, battery energy storage systems, and pumped storage projects. It also covers rooftop solar, floating and canal-based solar, agriphotovoltaics, distributed solar projects for agricultural feeders, rooftop wind systems, and off-grid renewable energy projects, along with sources such as tidal and wave-based ocean energy and geothermal energy.

Moreover, with the release of the new policy, the Gujarat Renewable Energy Policy 2023, and its subsequent amendments will remain suspended.
