Iberdrola España has started construction of two solar projects in Valencia, Spain, involving an investment of about $252 million. The projects comprise the Ayora 1 and Cofrentes I solar farms, having a combined installed capacity of 366 MW. These projects are expected to strengthen regional energy independence and are scheduled to be commissioned by the end of 2026.
The two solar projects will generate over 650,000 MWh of electricity annually. This output is sufficient to supply power to around 200,000 homes and is expected to offset approximately 52,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually. Additionally, the projects incorporate measures to support biodiversity, including the establishment of a wildlife reserve spanning more than 90 hectares to promote coexistence between renewable infrastructure and local ecosystems.
Construction activities are expected to employ up to 1,300 workers during peak periods, with a significant share locally from the Ayora-Cofrentes valley. National suppliers, including Ingeteam, Eiffage, Ormazabal, Mesa, and OHLA, are involved in project execution. Moreover, Iberdrola España reported that it has more than 4,840 MW of installed generation capacity in the region, with over 3,000 MW being carbon-free, alongside major energy assets such as a pumped storage project and the Cofrentes nuclear power plant.
