NVVN floats tender for 125 MW/500 MWh BESS in Chhattisgarh

NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) has floated a tender to select developers for developing a 125 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) in Chhattisgarh. The project is required to be developed near the 220 kV Khedamara Substation in Durg district.

According to the tender guidelines, the BESS developer must ensure a minimum monthly round-trip efficiency of 85 per cent and provide a cycle life of at least one full charge–discharge cycle per day, totalling 420 cycles a year. Additionally, the dispatchable capacity must remain above 70 per cent through the 16-year contract period. If the actual round-trip efficiency drops below the guaranteed level, liquidated damages will be imposed for the additional conversion losses.

The project will receive viability gap funding of Rs 1.8 million per MWh, adding up to Rs 900 million for the entire project capacity. Furthermore, the bidders are required to submit an earnest money deposit of Rs 880,000 per MW. They are also required to submit a bid processing fee of Rs 1.5 million. The bid submission deadline is December 30, 2025.

Earlier in July 2025, NVVN issued a tender to empanel engineering, procurement, and construction contractors for rooftop and ground-mounted solar power projects, with an upper capacity limit of 20 MW per vendor.
