Germany and the Czech Republic have agreed to strengthen collaboration on cross-border hydrogen infrastructure through the establishment of a new bilateral working group. The group aims to coordinate on joint projects, particularly focusing on the Czech-German Hydrogen Interconnector (CGHI), which will convert existing natural gas pipelines into hydrogen pipelines to enable bidirectional transport between the two countries.
The CGHI project is designed to connect the national hydrogen networks of Germany and the Czech Republic, while supporting the development of Germany’s planned core hydrogen network. Additionally, it will facilitate future hydrogen imports to the Czech Republic. The newly established working group includes participation from ministries, national regulators, and network operators such as GASCADE, Open Grid Europe, NaTran, and NET4GAS.
The group will enhance information exchange, promote joint planning, and support the creation of an integrated European hydrogen market. This cooperation is based on the German-Czech Declaration of Intent on hydrogen infrastructure, signed in April 2025, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to the joint development of a reliable and efficient hydrogen network in Central Europe.
