The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) is set to launch a pilot project to assess the viability of green hydrogen supply for commercial vehicles and to establish standards for fueling and storage systems. The pilot project is worth Rs 6 billion and will be launched on 10 selected highway stretches.
Furthermore, before a nationwide rollout of the project, trials will be conducted to examine all the technical, supply-chain, geographical, and logistical challenges. The pilot project is also anticipated to include incentives for steel and automobile manufacturers to design prototypes of hydrogen vehicles and storage systems.
The initiative aligns with MoRTH’s Vision 2047 mission and is expected to be implemented over the next two to three years. Additionally, the MoRTH is having discussions with key players such as Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited to develop the necessary infrastructure.
